Bringing Kennedy Home

Feelings, thoughts and other tidbits along the way to adopting our daughter from China.

It's almost 4 a.m...

Hi everyone. It's almost 4 a.m. Kennedy went to sleep at 10:00 and has been snug as a bug in a rug ever since. Marv and I both woke at 3, but he's back to sleep. I decided to get up and do some blogging...

So last night was pretty stressful for our girl. Obviously, she was exhausted. She wouldn't have anything to do with food so we just focused on comforting her and helping her get to sleep. It was that kind of cry where every now and again she just was overwhelmed with sadness, I think. All in good time. We totally are prepared for this grieving process. The Kennedy that you see in the pictures at the government offices is the "I'm not gonna cry in front of all these people" girl. Seems she has reserved that for here in the room. We're dedicating our time here all to her so he knows we'll be here for her...

We're going to breakfast @ 7 and then leaving at 8:30 to do more paperwork, etc. At some point today, I have to mix some kind of concoction that she will eat... they gave us formula and rice powder but she wanted no part of what i mixed yesterday. It's hard to get the right consistency, the right temperature (these babies are known to like their formula HOT!) Oh well, we'll get it right eventually.

BTW, when we got Kennedy, they gave us a gift...a glass ornament type thing, but no camera. But when Marvin went down last night to do the paperwork, voila, there it was! And Cindy, our guide is getting them developed for us. Can't wait to see those!

Once again, the messages we are receiving are awesome! Our site is obviously being passed around which warms my heart. We'll talk more soon. I think our girly is waking up!!

For once in my life I am speechless. Kennedy is truely blessed to be your chosen daughter. I wasn't able to see the video until I got home which was probably a good thing as I cried big tears of joy. I wish I was there and miss you guys. Give Kennedy lots of hugs and kisses from the Deighans.

Carolyn, I hope you don't have too many more tears at bedtime. That must be so stressful but sounds like you were prepared for it.

Let us know how she does at breakfast!! I bet she'll love it! Eggs, eggs, and more eggs!! You and Marvin will love all the choices - those buffets are the best!

Have a good Tuesday! It's still Monday here, and it's freezing. We went sliding with our girls on Saturday and Sunday and I thought of you 'cause I know you dig the winter. xoxo Steph :o)

You've seen her smile already...those smiles will come again. bedtime was hard for Mei Lin as well. Don't forget the 3 day rule...it takes about that long until they start to come around. The breakfast buffets are great...try her with some congee...Mei Lin loved it!...although, I'm not sure if Kennedy is big enough...I know nothing about 10 month olds!! The trip is very exhausting...try to get some sleep when you can!! Thinking about you guys non stop, just like everyone else!

Dear Carolyn, Marvin& Kennedy, Gerard seriously thinks I should go for professional help for my addiction to your blog!! When we got home from school I showed the girls your pictures and videos and they said:"She's so cute, can we go see her after supper?" Had to explain the you were still in China.Your first evening with her brings back memories of our first night home from the hospital with Isabelle. She was awake ALL night and cried most of it. When I talked to Gail the next day she thought that was quite amusing!! As for Julie I can't remember at all. It was either not that bad or I was so out of it I can't remember.( I think it's the second one). Anyway hang in there. I'm sure Kennedy feels how much you love her and she will soon feel comfortable. We love you guys and can't wait to hear more from you. Love Monette

K I agree with Monette, I have an addiction to this blog and may need help. Both and Mya are sick tonight, but I made Maj make me up a nice bed on the couch and had him get the laptop and set it up next to me. I keep waiting.... waiting to hear how her first night was, waiting to see what she finally eats, etc. etc. All the memories of our first nights with Mya come rushing back.... the tears (I think me more than Mya, although I have to give you credit Carolyn, I don't think I ever realized what a strong indivdual you were, you are already an amazing mommy!) Everything is so new and exciting and just sureal. I cannot wait to see you all come off the plane with Kennedy in your arms. (Crystal, maybe social committee could stock us all up on the kleenex:) ) K you gys, enjoy and please keep us addicts updated with all the latest!!
    Love yas

Hi guys, I am sure you are all very overwhelmed. Kennedy's only way to express it is by crying. I'm sure she will soon realize how safe and loved she is. Take care, Rhonda

Congratulations Marvin and Carolyn ~ what a beautiful family you are. Kennedy is gorgeous, of course, but so is everything about that moment that you first became parents. Thank you for sharing. It was an indoor recess today and so I showed my kids your video (I hope you don't mind). I put it on and watched it with them (they we crowded around my class computer), and then it was my turn to go to the staffroom. When I came back, they were still watching it (over and over). We all love you and are so glad that you let us in on your beautiful moment. All the best, always, Bryn.

PS. I agree with Natalie. Cheerios may be very helpful.

Carolyn ad Marvin, Look at you old pro's. Kennedy is absolutly adorable. I only have the pictures on this PC but I have windows 2000 on my lap top so I'm gonna try to hook up the router to it so I can see.
This is so exciting for us to see that dreams really do come true after the LOOOOOOOOOOOONG tedious wait.
Happy to see you aren't having any technical problems.
Hope everything runs smoothly for Kennedy over the next few days while she is getting to know you.

It is just sooo amazing. When I was watching the videos, and babies were crying all around, all I could think of was, "if that were my baby, all I'd want to do was to take her somewhere quiet where she could grieve in peace." I'm glad that Kennedy is grieving with you, in your hotel room, and is right where she should be. This is where all that wonderful parenting gets to come in. She gets to find out that parents are there for comfort. HOw sweet it is! I can't WAIT to see more. Keep it coming!

    Janet

PS_ I hope she eats better tomorrow. My guess is- she will! :-) Get some sleep, woman! :-)

Hi Guys, she's just absolutely adorable, I've watched the videos many times today and showed them to all my family. If Kennedy won't take the bottle, try feeding her a bit of formula by spoon and then when she starts sucking it a bit, shove the bottle in! Worked like a charm for Lana and we had to keep that up for a day or two before she caught on to the bottle. Lana also loved the steamed eggs and congee. Can't wait to see more! Happy to see Catherine and Kevin as well - tell them Congrats for us. Have a great day!

Ahhh...I cant wait for the next post and pictures!! Hey, one word of advice that I have been give as a mommy-to-be is that you have to SLEEP when the BABY is SLEEPING!!
And dont worry to much about Kennedy not wanting to eat yet...its normal!! Just think about how you feel when you are stressed and scared. As Kennedy warms up she will feel more like eating (may take upto 3 days). Good luck and keep on posting!!!
    ~~HUGS~~

hey Carolyn...I am back for my 2 cents worth...I think i have left a comment on every post so far. I just want to say I love you all again and give Kennedy a kiss and hug from us. Everyone seems to have left lots of good advice...I am a novice again after 12 years so I am useless in the advice department but I know you have great instincts so go with that.
    Love ya,
